NEW: „gradus@parnassum“
The waiting – and the Sabbatical – was worth it: The new Solo-CD with two world first recordings of „Übungen für Geiger“ by Paul Hindemith and the posthumous „Préludes“ by Eugène Ysaÿe will be published this autumn – though it won’t be too academic (phew, etudes!) as two solo Sonatas will also be on that CD (the early 1917 Hindemith and Ysaÿe No 6)

Egidius Streiff is an avid Violist (often in Quintett with the Pellegrini Quartett) and of course appears regularly in high profile concerts, for example as the Soloist in Wang Xilins violin concerto when this great Chinese composer was rehabilitated with the China National Symphony Orchestra at the „Zongshan forbidden city concert Hall“ in Beijing (live broadcast by CCTV9) -
The Swiss Musician Egidius Streiff is more than simply a Violinist!

Egidius Streiff’s Music enabled significant projects beyond Art: As an example: Pionieering contacts with Musicians of both Koreas under the auspices of the Swiss foreign ministry allowed him to search for composing students of Isang Yun in Pyongyang and to bring musicians from the northern half DPR Korea to Switzerland to create for the first time a joint appearance with western musicians in a memorable cultural project of understanding between different worlds. Or: After many years of giving masterclasses at the Ulan Bataar College for Music and Dance in Mongolia he establishes with Flautist Christoph Bösch the mongolian „Chuluun Foundation“ for cultural Exchange in Central Asia - a foundation who nowadays is instrumental in the setting up of his dream fair trade for violin bow hair.

And: 2009 he was Curator of the widely recognised exhibition „Spuren – Adolf Busch in Riehen“ www.adolfbusch.ch

Unique activities, gaining weight through his unassuming but undeniably outstanding violinistic abilities – though Egidius Streiff comments:  „I don’t particularly trust the notion that Music is an international language – I’d rather feel an inner necessity of music: The Moment when nothing else is of Relevance!”

Egidius Streiff plays two outstanding violins; one by Peter Guarneri - the "ex Hegner" made in Mantova 1702 - the other made in 2010 by Peter Westermann in Zürich. His favourite bow was made by Etienne Pajeot around 1810.
